Half price bus fare scheme - extended up to the age of 18 from September
Students aged up to 18 are now able to benefit from half price bus travel.
Medway Council already gives half price discounts for children up to the end of Year 11 at any time of the day or week.
Now all those in Years 12 and 13 will be able to pay half the adult fare up until 6pm Monday to Friday.
Cllr Les Wicks, the Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, said: “This new initiative will help make staying on in education all the more affordable for every family in Medway.
“It will also help widen the choices for prospective students as they will get half price travel to any college in Medway and, as long as they start their journey in Medway and make any changes they need here, across Kent as well.
“We realise that many families are having to cut back their spending during these difficult financial times and this will make a real difference for many families with children who are going on to further education this September.”
To qualify students must live in Medway and travel to any school/college in Medway or Kent (as long as any changes of bus are in Medway).
For further information and an application form visit any Medway school, main libraries and council contact points or online at www.medway.gov.uk/gettingtoschool. Alternatively, people can phone 331155.
