A group of Young Inspectors led a series of inspections over the summer period on Medway’s C-card Scheme. The scheme is a free and confidential condom distribution network for young people aged 13-20 years in Medway.
The Young Inspector’s reviewed a variety of locations across Medway including sexual health clinics, pharmacists and youth centres. Youth centres in Medway scored top marks. In the young people’s words:
“Youthies deserve good things, they told us all the important things. All the ins and outs were put to us, to show we had some trust. Youthies need to be open more – that’s what we saw”
Jinny Robinson, Teenage Pregnancy Strategic Co-ordinator said:
“I am delighted with the results from the Youth Centre Inspections; the Youth Service clearly has an important role in the delivery of the Medway Teenage Pregnancy Strategy”.
The Teenage Pregnancy Team will be working on implementing recommendations made by the Young Inspectors to ensure that the C-card Scheme continues to be responsive to the needs of young people in Medway.
