The official opening of Spinnens Acre Junior School’s woodland cabin with TV presenter Chris Packham (BBC Springwatch) took place on Monday, 20 July.

The school was successful last year with the Big Lottery Fund’s Peoples’ Millions grant and appeared on Meridian TV in November.

The school received £50,000 funding to build a woodland cabin as part of a wildlife centre project and this has now been completed. It also includes woodland walks, picnic areas and play areas.

Now the cabin is completed a number of activities will be available. Teachers from the school (and other schools, if they wish) can use the cabin during the day to enhance the curriculum.

Community activities will run after school and during the school holidays including:
•    wildlife photography;
•    bug hunting;
•    bird watching;
•    nature arts and crafts;
•    children’s parties.
